Zes keer de Alp d'huez
Alpe
d’ HuZes!!
Alpe
d’HuZes is the cycle event in which participants climb the pass to Alpe d’Huez
six times in one day individually or in teams. Not without reason, but to raise
money for the Alpe d’HuZes research fund of KWF (= Dutch Cancer Foundation).
The first edition was held in 2007 and raised an amount of 1 million euro. Over
the years the donated amount grew rapidly and last year, 2011, an amount of
20,1 million euro was raised. On the 6th and 7th of June 2012 we will aim for 30
million euro!
The
challenge
The
pass to the Alp d’Huez is mostly known as a stage finish in the biggest cycle
event of the world; the Tour de France. Cyclist such as Lance Armstrong and
Marco Pantani arrived solo in Alp d’Huez during “the Tour”. 21 corners need to
be taken before you arrive on the top of the pass. The total length of the pass
is 14,3 kilometers and the top is at 1845 meters altitude. The average gradient
is 7,9% with a maximum of 14,8%. In total the height difference between the
start and finish is 1127 meters.
Personal
goal
Since
the 1st of January of this year I have been in training for this
challenge. I go to the gym a few times per week in order to train my legs. My
personal goal is to climb the Alp d’Huez six times in one day. This means 75
kilometer uphill and 75 kilometer downhill. When we take this into
consideration, the training is an absolute must. Per climb I need approximately 1,5 hours to get from the
start untill the finish and 30
minutes to get down to the start again. In total I will spend at least 12 hours
on my bicycle to finish my six climbs. By doing this I hope to raise as much
money as possible for the Cancer Foundation KWF. I’m quite sure that everybody
has a relative or a friend who is suffering from cancer. By supporting me with
a donation we can fight against this terrible disease together. I will do the
cycling and you can do the supporting! The minimum target I have is 2500 euro
but I’m aiming for way more. Please support me in this!!
