Last year I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL), stage III. NHL is a type of blood cancer that starts in your lymph system. It causes tumors in your lymph-nodes and tries to attack your immune system. Incurable, so far...

Of course this is scary and a big distraction for my wife and kids. And we are not forgetting my brother, who passed away in 2009 because of a brain tumor (http://www.brightdesign.nl/janwillemvester/inmemoriam-usa.htm).

BUT, I am ALIVE! So for me, there is no other option than to put all my efforts into raising research money to find a cure for this disease so others, and especially none of my friends and family have to suffer and we can all survive to celebrate long, full lives. I believe that with research, a cure is possible.

I love to bike. So I have decided to raise money by participating in the Fundraiser 'Alpe d'HuZes 2012' and climb the Tour de France mountain 'Alpe d'Huez' on June 7, 2012. This is a hugely prestigious and tough bike climb and I am honored to have the opportunity to participate in the climb as well as to help raise money for the most important cause I have ever had-- my health and life.
